Our Silent Witness

We find ourselves caught in a state resembling Stockholm syndrome amid the absence of any activity. On one hand, we are relieved by the lack of further engagement, yet a conflict of emotions lingers. We hold onto the hope that as long as this continues, we might achieve closure or some form of resolution. If asked four years ago whether we would welcome news that these individuals had ended their campaign, our answer would have been an unequivocal yes. This contradictory emotional response surprises us—a strange, complex connection, though certainly not one of admiration for these person or persons. We hope they persist, not out of morbid curiosity, but to ensure they are held accountable for their actions.

They seem to have gone into hiding or exhausted all available options. Over the years, their material became highly repetitive, revealing that they have little left to contribute or imply. Our suspicions suggest they are either fatigued or possibly subdued. While it is reassuring that they likely won’t trouble us further, this leaves a situation where no one is held accountable. Nonetheless, we commend their vocabulary, which prompted us to look up the meanings of certain words. It has certainly been an educational experience. We can now reference those words, and it even gives us a sense of accomplishment. Should we ever meet these people we feel somewhat prepared or worthy to engage in conversation with them. They may hold a different outlook or perhaps not, but it will be an educational experience.

Perhaps the university they attended has left an indelible and lasting mark on their character and beliefs. It would certainly have played a significant role in preparing them to develop this particular ideology about society and the strongly held opinions they cling to. So, unfortunately, we still have no new updates to report regarding the absent witness. On a more positive note, several people have reached out to offer their support, and others have found the courage to openly share their own personal experiences after reading the blog. We are not the first to face a situation like this, so it is completely okay to come forward and admit, I am not okay with this type of harassment or bullying.
